HACKETTSTOWN (July 28, 2005) - Are you looking for truly a great family activity that combines fun and an important cause? The 3rd annual Joan Knechel Memorial Walk to benefit the new Joan Knechel Cancer Center at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center could be just the activity you had in mind. The Walk will be held on Sunday, October 16th at Mountain Lake in Liberty Township, Warren County.
Hundreds of people - young and old annually take part in the Walk, which officially kicks off at 12 noon. Individuals and groups are invited to take a 2.5 or 5-mile scenic walk around the lake to help raise money for the new Joan Knechel Cancer Center, which opened this summer at HRMC.
Local artist Ann Reeves, who donated a painting last year to commemorate the Walk, is this years Honorary Chairperson. Reeves, a cancer survivor, was a friend of Joan Knechel, and Reeves credits Knechel with inspiring her and many others patients undergoing cancer treatment.
Its a fun event with an important message, said Liza Thomas, chairperson of the Joan Knechel Memorial Walk. For many people who participate, it is an opportunity to honor Joan Knechel, a person who was well respected in the community before she passed away from cancer. For many others, it is also an opportunity to contribute to a project such as the Joan Knechel Cancer Center, that will offer hope, help and comfort to so many cancer patients and their families, closer to home.
Brown & Brown Insurance of Washington is the presenting sponsor of the Walk, and additional sponsors, donors and walkers are currently being sought. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Mountain Lake Firehouse.
In addition to the Walk, participants will enjoy entertainment, free food and a chance to win great prizes. For more information about the Joan Knechel Memorial Walk and how you can participate, please call the HRMC Foundation office at (908) 850-6876 or (908) 850-6836.
