The Center's dual-energy Varian 21 Linear Accelerator provides radiation therapy using four-dimensional treatment planning, conforming to the exact shape of a tumor and reducing the risk of harming the surrounding healthy tissue.
The state-of-the-art radiation treatment techniques also include IMRT (Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy) and Respiratory Gating.
The Respiratory Gating System monitors the patient's breathing pattern to provide radiation only at precise times. As the patient breathes, tumors in the body move and shift; the Respiratory Gating System precisely delivers radiation only when the tumor moves back to its original position, thus protecting healthy tissue.
Our GE PET/CT Scanner provides images for both diagnosis and to develop an individualized radiation treatment plan. During the course of treatment, the PET/CT may be used to monitor progress of the radiation treatment protocol. The radiation oncologist also uses it to monitor the effectiveness of the radiation treatment course of therapy.
